National Geographic Bee Background & Information
This is the 22nd year the National Geographic Society has sponsored the National Geographic Bee for students in grades four through eight in thousands of schools across the country. The National Geographic Bee helps promote geography awareness and knowledge. It also helps to make learning this cross disciplinary subject fun. Nearly five million fourth through eighth graders participate each year. The National Geographic Bee has become one of our country's most popular academic contests.
The winner of the school bee is given a written examination shortly after their school bee is held. The written examination is used to determine the top 100 students who will advance to the state-level Geography Bee held in the spring. The winner of each state-level bee travels to Washington D.C. in May to compete at the national level for scholarship prizes up $25,000.
